FASTag guide

How do I update my FASTag KYC?

Log in to your issuer bank's FASTag portal or app and upload a photo of the car showing the number plate, your RC and an ID proof. Tags without complete KYC can be deactivated. Check your status on the issuer portal or the NHAI FASTag site.

Can I have more than one FASTag?

No. Under the one vehicle, one FASTag rule, each vehicle can have only one active tag, and each tag is linked to one vehicle. Older extra tags are deactivated. Close any tag you no longer use with its issuer.

My FASTag is blacklisted. What do I do?
  • Recharge if the balance is low or negative. Most tags are reactivated within a few hours.
  • Complete or update KYC if the issuer has asked for it.
  • If you have two active tags, close the older one.
  • Still blacklisted? Call your issuer's helpline or the national FASTag helpline, 1033.
The tag doesn't scan or is damaged

Ask your issuer for a replacement tag. You'll get a new tag on the same account. Ask the issuer to move your balance and any annual pass to it. Stick the tag on the inside of the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror. Tags kept loose or in a holder often don't read and may be treated as no FASTag.

I'm selling my car. What happens to the FASTag?

Close the FASTag account with your issuer before you hand over the car, or remove it from your bank account. The buyer gets a new tag in their name. If you're buying another car, get a fresh tag for it, as tags can't be moved between vehicles.

I was charged wrongly. How do I get a refund?
  • Raise a complaint with your issuer bank as soon as you notice it, with the date, time and toll plaza name from the SMS.
  • Double charges and charges when you didn't travel are usually reversed once the bank checks with the toll plaza.
  • If the bank doesn't resolve it, escalate on the NHAI helpline 1033.
How does the annual pass work?
  • It costs ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026 and covers 200 toll crossings or one year, whichever comes first.
  • It's for private cars, jeeps and vans, on toll plazas on national highways and national expressways. State highways and state-run expressways charge as usual.
  • Buy it on the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website. It activates on your existing FASTag, so you don't need a new tag.
  • Each plaza crossing counts as one. On closed expressways, one entry and exit counts as one.
How do I check my FASTag balance?

Use your issuer bank's app or website, the SMS sent after every toll, or any UPI app that offers FASTag recharge through Bharat BillPay, which shows the balance before you pay.

Good to know

  • Top up enough for the whole trip before a highway drive. A low balance can get the tag blacklisted, and you'd pay the higher rate for not having FASTag.
  • Within 24 hours, a return trip through the same plaza is often discounted, but not on the annual pass, where each crossing counts.
  • Prototype: tolls and the number of plazas on each route are estimates. FASTag rules change often, so check the current NHAI rules before launch.
